survival..the thing we all face – sometimes with grace and other times, ..well.. we face it.
here’s my analogy to survive economic slow/melt/down
what a ride..
you’re riding your first real gentle wave after your first surfing lesson
you’re doing fine – feeling good – working the board..
then outta nowhere this easy wave turns into the biggest pipeline ever seen on the planet
you’re using every slim scrap of knowledge to stay on the board
every ounce of insight to keep from being thrashed
you can feel it curling up somewhere way above your head
and you’re pretty sure .. this is not a good thing..
somehow..through the grace of god and your innate athletic abilities, you’re still clinging upright to the board
but now the wave is… in front-above-and behind
and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger
teasing you with it’s ability to smash the fuck out of you
you know that thinking won’t help..
so you will yourself to just stick it as best you can..
and try to go to your happy place..
knowing that if you can just hold on you might make it to the beach..
but it seems the slimmest of possibilities..
you start calling up every form of prayer you know
including “the little train that could”.. ithinkican..ithinkican..ithinkican..
choices start presenting themselves in nanosecond bursts..
but somewhere, from within the dim caveman recess of your brain
a voice is lightly heard..
instructions on survival..
so you listen with aching ears
you consciously start accelerating your speed past what you know to be sane
then cut back hard into the face of the wave with every muscle straining a strain previously unknown to your body..
and at the same moment laying flat on the board and clinging with white fingers and toes..
to find that you’ve burst through the back side..float through space..
and drop onto the once again calm and gentle sea
and the wave you were on thrashes the reef and smashes into the beach..
and you paddle in to shore gently in it’s wake..
a survivor.. alive..and so much wiser
best of luck ya’ll
